The mosque named Masjid Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail was built through the sincere contribution of His Royal Highness the Raja of Perlis, the late Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail.

This mosque is one of the main attractions in Kangar town and was completed in mid-2005. Tuanku Puan Besar Budriah officially handed over the mosque to the Perlis State Government on September 15, 2005, for the use of the people in the local community and the entire population of Perlis state. The mosque’s inauguration ceremony was officiated by His Majesty the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, on November 8, 2005.

The management and administration related to Masjid Tuanku Syed Putra are under the jurisdiction of the State Secretary’s Office, the Perlis State Islamic Religious Affairs Department, and the Perlis State Baitulmal (Treasury).

A Mosque Parish Committee (Jawatankuasa Kariah Masjid) was also established to strengthen the quality of the mosque’s effective governance. The committee consists of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and several Committee Members who are appointed after receiving the consent of His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, as the President of the Perlis Islamic and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs).
